Take a look at the image (shown above) to give you an idea of Earth's size in relation to the Sun. When it unleashes solar winds and flare, the plasma-charged particles from this can disrupt our electronics and "fry" the electrical grid, especially when our planet's magnetic shield has been weakening.

The Sun goes through it's cycles, from stable to volatile. We've been on the receiving end of the Sun's erratic activity for the last 70 years - acting bipolar. We are also within the window of a major Solar Burst happening that is far more damaging than a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) to cause polar shifts, lots of volcanic activity, earthquakes, flooding, melting of rock, incineration of materials above ground, and more. 

The last Solar Burst ended the Ice Age about 12,000 years ago that warmed the Earth, melting ice sheets to raise sea levels over 300 feet high and cause the Great Flood. Plasma discharges from the sun continued for about several thousand years - a period called the Solar-Induced Dark Age (SIDA). Many headed underground within megalithic stone structures and in caves for protection, then reemerged 5,000 - 6,000 years later to re-start civilization. There's lots of evidence of these ancient shelters around the world.
