High Notes: My Two Decades Working
in the Music Industry with Rock Legends, Jefferson Airplane Through The Doors to the Grateful Dead
For Beyond 50's "History" talk, listen to an interview with Richard Loren.  He'll share his stories that are an insider's view of the music scene in the sixties, the importance of the West Coast sound, the artists, and some of the dynamics of the cutting edge groups of the time - The Chambers Brothers, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, The Jerry Garcia Bands, Old and in the Way, and more.  Loren gives credit to Liberace, the most dazzlingly bedazzled fairy godmother a 23-year-old Italian American kid from New Jersey could ask for - a job booking up-and-coming acts that would later become world famous.

don Jose Ruiz:
My Good Friend The Rattlesnake:
Stories of Loss, Truth, and Transformation
For Beyond 50's "Spirituality" talks, listen to an interview with don Jose Ruiz, teacher of  the ancient, Toltec traditions of Mexico.  He'll describe his journey of self-discovery and transformation.  As a teenager, don Jose became lost in the misery of drug addiction and spiraled into a pattern of self-destruction until the death of a dear friend woke him to the reality of his bad choices.  He learned many lessons from his painful experiences, gleaning from the wisdom of his father and from the traditions of swamis and shamans (of the Amazon), and offers insights on how to discover your true and unique purpose in life.

 Secret Shopper:
America's Largest Christmas Bazaar

If you missed the annual "America's Largest Christmas Bazaar" at the Portland Expo Center in Oregon, we've got it covered.  Beyond 50 is always on the lookout for what's trendy, unique and innovative.

We couldn't taste the candies in the bags that were infused with the Kava herb for anti-stress, insomnia and anxiety, even hot flashes.  Although, we did get a taste of big game in dried meat from  alligator and boar that was delicious (by Armando: 503-409-3265).  You'll want to store them in round plastic containers that are built with a mini-vacuum pump so it's heat resistant and food lasts 3X longer.

For survival, it's best to use a knife that was designed by a former Green Beret.  His is seriously SHARP: made from German steel (not stainless steel) that's layered and folded.  You can use it to skin and elk or moose with one blade and almost no re-sharpening.  Moving on to the softer side of life: teddy bears made of leopard, fox, rabbit, muskrat, and mink (by Nancy Demory: 360-573-6688).

To enhance your beauty, we tried their skin blend of coconut and sugar  (that's a better exfoliator).  Sugar is best.  Salt in facial scrubs makes tiny cuts in the skin.  If you've got short lashes, how about coloring them purple and making them 300X fuller?  One vendor says to buy her water-based skin care products.  Mineral oil just sits on the skin's surface, so you want mineral oil-free.  To look really good, how about decorative earrings made from a halibut's ear.  The number of rings on it gives away the fish's age.

For the guys, their supplement drinks contain Octopamine to break down fat cells and stop the burning of lean muscle mass.  You'll also get their customized workout regimen for 8-weeks to look buff.

And last, SAVE THE BEAVER!  The imitation vanilla in yogurts, other foods and skin care products is really from the glands of this furry creature.  Buy real vanilla from vanilla beans
