Her life story was an emotional roller-coaster ride.  Insisting that she was worthy of an authentic romantic relationship, she initiates the breakup of her marriage.  With three children in tow, she dives into midlife "cougar" dating, including a close call with a charming but dangerously abusive alcoholic.  James launched an acting career and surprised herself with her success in an extremely competitive arena, lost 56 pounds, and survived a terrifying financial recession that almost takes everything with it, in addition to the death of a loved one.

Beyond 50 only recommends films that are creatively responsible to reveal the finest qualities of the human spirit; allow you think and feel deeply about life; make your heart soart; and champion human rights.

Wild
Opening Date: December 5
A moving story of self-discovery, the film is based on a true story by Cheryl Strayed.  After a recent divorce and losing her mother, her life takes a downward spiral into heroine abuse and promiscuity.  She decides to go on a  solo journey, hiking over 1,000 miles (1,600 km.) along the Pacific Crest Trail of the West Coast.  Along the trail, she gets blisters, dodges rapists and other perils.  Strayed feels that reatreating to the wild is her "real life."  (Available in Select Theatres on Dec. 5; Genre: Drama; Running Time: 1 hr., 55 min.)

Interstellar
This is an epic, save the Earth's people film, set in a dystopian future that also touches on family ties and commitment.  A global blight has wiped out many crops creating Dust Bowls and famine.  Cooper, a corn farmer and former ace pilot discovers a secret, underground headquarter of NASA with the help of his young daughter's communication with a "ghost" providing information on its location in binary code.  Expecting his arrival is Professor Brand who recruits him on a secret mission: pilot a spacecraft that will hold 4 astronauts and a robot to a habitable planet for Earth's population to survive by going through a wormhole nearby Saturn that is a shortcut in space.  Accepting the mission, he leaves him son Tom and daughter Murphy behind.  (Available in Most Theatres; Genre: Action & Adventure; Sci-Fi & Fantasy; Running Time: 2 hrs., 49 min.)  Beyond 50's Note:  We highly recommend that you watch our interview and video book trailer featuring Len Kasten called "Secret Journey to Planet Serpo" that is a historical version of an "Interstellar" project headed by President Kennedy.

The Imitation Game
Considered the "father of our computerized world," Alan Turning was a socially inept, yet brilliant mathematician, cryptoanalyst and war hero.  Set in 1952 in London's Bletchley Park, it's nearly 10 years after World War II ended.  Turning is charged with 'gross indecency' when honosexuality was considered a crime.  This was after he built a proto-computer with the help of his team to crack the unbreakable codes of Germany's Enigma machine.  (Available in theatres everywhere; Genre: Mystery & Suspense, Drama; Running Time: 1 hr., 54 min.)
