12 p.m. (PT)/2 p.m. (Central)/3 p.m. (ET)
 A Live & Online Broadcast
For Beyond 50's "History" talks, listen to an interview with Steve Almond.  He'll talk about being a fan of football, but came to realize that it's not good for the players, the fans, our cities, or our culture.  He argues that by watchng, cheering, and participating in football culture, we are all complicit in the damage it wreaks even as it "legitimizes and even fosters within us a tolerance for violence, greed, racism, and homophobia."  He's raised in the past uncomfortable questions for many like, Why do we continue to reward team owners for holding cities essentially hostage, while demanding new stadiums funded by the taxpayers?  How is the NFL's nonprofit, tax-exempt status justified?  Has the NFL become a a publicity arm of the US military?  What do repeated hits, concussions, and sub-concussive blows do to children who play, and how young is too young to start playing?

Conquering the Electron: The Geniuses, Visionaries, Egomaniacs, and Scoundrels Who Built Our Electronic Age
For Beyond 50's "History" talk, listen to an interview with Derek Cheung, Ph.D.  He'll talk about the true and engaging history of the world of electronics.  He offers many stories presenting each revolutionary technological advance right alongside blow-by-blow personal battles that all too often took place.  You'll understand the interconnection of each advance to the next on the long journey to our modern-day technologies.  Exploring the combination of genius, infighting, and luck that powered the creation of today's electronic age, Cheung debunks the hero worship so often plaguing the stories of great advances.  Want to know how AT&T’s Bell Labs developed semiconductor technology—and how its leading scientists almost came to blows in the process?  Want to understand how radio and television work—and why RCA drove their inventors to financial ruin and early graves?  Dr. Cheung can look back to charge the development of a technology and also look forward to where that technology is taking an industry.

Conscious Living, Conscious Aging

For Beyond 50's “Personal Growth” talk, listen to an interview with Ron Pevny.  He is the founder of the Center of Conscious Eldering.  He offers a new model for positive aging that focuses on the potential for growth, service, fulfillment, and spiritual exploration.   You'll learn what it means to age consciously, including the importance of doing a Life Review (to heal and learn from our past) and Building Legacy.

By following the archetypal and indigenous idea of elderhood, you can live consciously and intentionally -  that takes into account the spiritual side of aging to realize our potential for growth and wholeness.

"Conscious aging in about having meaningful goals for our elderhood that spring from our authentic selves and using the power of intention and inner work to make our vision a reality.  It is about having the courage to aim high in an unconscious world," explained
