 A Live & Online Broadcast

For Beyond 50's “History” talks, listen to an interview with Robert Lautner from England.  His historical novel, “Road to Reckoning” follows the story of 12-year-old Thomas Walker who set on the road from New York with his traveling salesman father to sell Samuel Colt's improved revolver gun. They slowly make their way to the West.  Three days into their journey, Thomas loses his father in a violent robbery.  He is left to find his way home with nothing but a gelding, a wagon, and a wooden model gun for protection.  Thomas ends up saddling with Harry Stands, a former Indiana ranger and cantankerous man who is reluctant to head back East with him.  Their relationship is a complicated partnership.  Following the two are the outlaws who killed Thomas' father, hoping to finish the job before the boy reports the crime. As a backdrop to the story is the development of the Colt gun from its early days and how it shaped the Old West.
