12 p.m. (PT)/2 p.m. (Central)/3 p.m. (ET)
 A Live & Online Broadcast

For Beyond 50's "History" talks, listen to an interview with Mona Fuad.  She'll talk about the 1940s as a revolutionary period in Egyptian history, following the story of a famous pro*titute named Layla (last name withheld) who rose to fame as the mi*tress of the most powerful man in Egypt, King Farouk.  Fuad will also share about her life that is very much the opposite of Layla’s troubled youth.  She was born in Alexandria - once crowned Miss Egypt and could be found in many Egyptian and American films, including "The Ten Commandments."  Upon leaving show business and moving to America with her husband, Fuad founded the first acrylic nail salon in Dallas and helped define the landscape of the now over $35 billion nail industry.  You'll also learn about life during the Arabic Revolution and get a look behind the royal curtain - a look at the life and luxury of King Farouk.

Half Bad
For Beyond 50's "Literary" talks, listen to an interview with Sally Green from England.  Her new, young adult fiction book "Half Bad" is being hailed as the new "Hunger Games" that will be turned into a Hollywood film.  The first in a new trilogy, she'll talk about the story, based on a sixteen-year-old Nathan who lives in a cage: beaten, shackled, and trained to kill.  In a modern-day England, where two warring factions of witches live amongst humans, Nathan is an abomination, the illegitamate son of Marcus, the world's most terrifying and violent witch.  Hunted from all sides, Nathan's only hope for survival is to escape his captor, track down his cruel father, and receive the three gifts that will bring him into his own magical powers. The author will also discuss about taking the assumptions of good and evil and turning them on their head.

  Fueling Your Entrepreneurial Spirit:
Launch a Startup in 54 Hours

Beyond 50 encourages you to attend a Startup Weekend near you that is hosted by Google for Entrepreneurs.  What's unique about this event is that it's part of a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures.  It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1800 past events in 120 countries around the world in 2014.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation.  The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.

You can also learn from our guest, Mona Fuad through an interview this Friday at 12 p.m.(PT)/3 p.m. (ET).  She is an American success story, using the beauty tricks she learned from the glamorous Hollywood movie stars while living and working as an actress in Cairo, Egypt.  Fuad emigrated to Texas, starting her own business in the 1970's.  She  introduced fake, beautiful nails that can be painted.  The average American woman at the time didn't know how to make her nails dramatically long, and if she could do it once, Mona said, she didn't know the trick to keeping all 10 nails consistently pointy. Her empire grew into a nationwide franchise operation that is part of a billion dollar nail industry.
